To the mobile scouting truck!

Weather permitting, I’m planning to drive to Syracuse tonight to catch the Charlotte Knights in action.  I’m planning to use most of my video attention on Brent Morel, since 1) I’ve never seen him play in person, and 2) I’ve already put together videos on Jordan Danks and Tyler Flowers.
(I’m not sure if I’ll even see Flowers, since he’s started two games in a row.  But the good news is that Thursday night’s game will be on local TV here, so if I miss anybody at Alliance Bank Stadium, I’ll have backup.)
If anybody has any special requests, let me know and I’ll try to accommodate them.
It’s an early night for me, so enjoy the White Sox’s first day over .500 since Opening Day.

Minor league roundup:

  • Charlotte 6, Syracuse 4
    • Tyler Flowers, hitting like he should: 3-for-5 with a homer, two RBI and a strikeout. It’s his sixth homer of June.
    • Also hitting is Alejandro De Aza; he singled, doubled and homered, making him 9-for-16 since returning from the DL.
    • Jordan Danks went 2-for-4 with a double, an RBI and a strikeout. He was also caught stealing.
    • Brent Morel went 1-for-3 with a walk.
    • Jeff Marquez allowed two runs on five hits and four walks over five innings, striking out two.
    • Jhonny Nunez pitched two scoreless innings with a walk and a K; Clevelan Santeliz struggled.
  • Chattanooga 5, Birmingham 1
    • Christian Marrero went 2-for-4.
    • C.J. Retherford was hitless over four at-bats, striking out once.
  • Elizabethton 6, Bristol 1
    • Happy returns in this one: Josh Phegley went 1-for-4 with two strikeouts in his first game since going on the DL with the blood disorder ITP.
    • Jose Martinez had three singles in four at-bats in his first pro game since his knee injury.
    • Rangel Ravelo went 0-for-3 with an RBI.
    • Ryan Buch, now starting, allowed four runs on six hits over five innings, including a pair of homers. He struck out four without issuing a walk.
  • Great Falls 2, Billings 1
    • David Holmberg struck out eight over five sterling innings. He allowed just two hits and a walk, and the run he allowed was unearned.
    • Ross Wilson  went 1-for-4 with an RBI and a strikeout.
    • Juan Silverio was hitless in five at-bats, including a K.
  • Winston-Salem OFF
  • Kannapolis OFF

I can’t help it…I’m super duper excited.

Sox need to make a deal ASAP and get Beckham out of the starting line-up. I know he hit a couple of nice liners last night, but the production at 2nd and his overall mediocre fielding requires an immediate change. He knows it. We all know it.

Lance Berkman would look awful good in our lineup…

bigfun

Yeah, his .726 OPS would look right at home with the other Sox bats.
He has a chance of rebounding, so he would make some sense, but I’m not sure about giving up prospects for a fat contract on an underperforming old guy who probably isn’t even fully healthy.
Not sure it’s wise to even make a move, but if they’re determined to do so I would rather see someone with a smaller pricetag, like the oft-mentioned Luke Scott or Jorge Cantu or David Dejesus. Or better yet, a young guy who is major-league ready, like Alex Gordon (washed-up Royals prospects, gotta catch ’em all).

Seeing as how that’s .170 lower than the next lowest of his career, yeah, I’d say he’ll probably bounce back.

bigfun

I think there’s a good chance he will. But he’s also in his mid-30s, when players start to decline, which means there’s also a significant chance he won’t bounce back.

I’d like to see a report on Dyan Viciedo. Oh———-he’s sitting in the White Sox dugout @ the Cell????
Beckham is coming around, have some patience and leave him at 2B!!

I think we’ve all been patient with Beckham, but now we’re almost into July, the team is looking like it’s got a shot, and here he is hitting .199. Can’t just slot the kid in there on his career numbers. Make him earn his ABs, that’s all I ask. For lack of any other current options, I’d say he’s got about 10 days left in the starting line-up to “come around”.

Let’s make some noise and acquire Adam Dunn for DH.

Jose Martinez holy cow!!!! Two years ago I thought he could be a similiar player to Alex Rios if everything went right. Lets hope he gets back on track.
