Sporcle Saturday: three-baggin’ it

Morning all, and welcome to the one year anniversary of Sporcle Saturday!

Yolmer Sanchez had himself a game on Thursday, going 3-5 with 3 RBI and 2 triples. As Josh mentioned on the White Sox Wake Up Call, that’s the first time a Sox player has done that at a home opener since 1972. That posed a question with a much bigger set of answers, and is the theme of today’s quiz: how many White Sox players have hit at least two triples in a game? The answer is 104, though I’m not going to make you guess the players to have done it before 1950. I can’t imagine many people would have guessed Patsy Dougherty as the 1904 answer, but 1950 is recent enough that I think most folks will be familiar with the names listed past that date. Good luck!

Quiz Parameters

  • As always, first and last names accepted, as well as just the surname.
  • I’ve given you ten minutes to attempt completion.
  • For hints, I’ve provided the date of the game, and the defensive position of the player in question.

Useless information to amaze, annoy, confound, and/or confuse your friends:

  • One player on this list actually had three triples in a game. Their overall line: 6-6, 4 runs scored, and 4 RBI. (14-4 win over the Twins)
  • The highest Win Probability added from the players on this list: .433, a 2-4, 2 RBI effort in a 9-6 loss to the Twins.
  • “That’s what speed do”: as if two triples weren’t enough, one player in 1995 also added three stolen bases. (A 10-4 victory against the Blue Jays)

40/44 and some of those were pure guesses on my part.

38/44. Probably underperformed by 3. 3 I had no chance. Got everyone in my lifetime.

Boomer w 36. Chalk another one up for the bad guy!

Originally I read “tea” instead of “three”. But that was your intention along, wasn’t it? Naughty.

Oddly, about 44 White Sox would be on that list, too.

34. I recognized some of the names I missed, but I think I did about as well as I could.

40/44. I am most proud of getting the 3B from 1986. All misses were from the 50s and 60s.

Right Size Wrong Shape

That was the only one I didn’t get post-70’s. I was most proud of the 2006 SS.

Yeah I would say he was tougher to get than the 86 third baseman.

I should have done better, my spelling was off, especially on the 1952 SS.

22/44. Too many oldies.

Laughable. ?
