Sporcle Saturday: 4 WAR Shortstops
As Josh and Jim discussed on the most recent Sox Machine Live! podcast, Tim Anderson seems to be finding his groove, as he’s been worth a tidy 1.4 WAR on the season. Should he keep up this pace, it would give him 4.2 wins above replacement for the year and would make him just the tenth player in Sox history to log at least 4 WAR in a season (29th instance overall). And that, my friends, leads us to today’s Sporcle: of the 28 shortstop seasons that have recorded at least 4 WAR for the White Sox, how many can you name? Good luck!
Quiz Parameters
- As usual, first and last names accepted, in addition to just the surname.
- I’ve allotted seven minutes for completion attempts, as there are many multiples.
- For hints, I’ve provided the season in which the feat took place, and the WAR logged.
Useless information to amaze, annoy, confound, and/or confuse your friends:
- The average triple slash of the players on this list: .291/.368/.392 [emphasis mine]
- No player hit more than 25 home runs in a season on this list (so Tim Anderson could break that record), while two players recorded zero.
- Just one player on this list went over the 200 hit mark: 204, in 1936.

25/28. Why don’t I know about
He was acquired for Aparicio and played well before getting hurt. The fact he was acquired for louie might be the reason you don’t hear about him much.
