White Sox Minor Keys: June 16, 2018

Alec Hansen finally surfaced in a regular-season game, making his long-awaited 2018 debut in Birmingham on Saturday.

The results weren’t impressive. He allowed six runs on nine hits and a walk over 4⅔ innings, striking out four. He was greeted with three singles in the first inning, then gave up a three-run blast in the second inning. He then settled down to retire the next seven in a row before the stumbling through the third trip through the order.

Still, the most important thing is that Hansen pitched. He’d been battling a forearm issue that has been described as muscular, and also something he’d battled in high school. Forearm tightness is often a precursor to Tommy John surgery, but that measure hasn’t been part of the conversation.

Just like Carlos Rodon, the key is for Hansen to take the mound again five days from now. Or maybe a few more than that, what with the All-Star break and all.

Looks like the lower level ASG’s are on Tuesday, so I’m really hoping we see some movement before Thursday’s games.

No dingers hit by any White Sox affiliate yesterday. There should be a name for such a feat.
