White Sox Minor Keys: July 10, 2018

Eloy Jimenez (Laura Wolff / Charlotte Knights)

Rick Hahn spoke to reporters before the start of the homestand on Tuesday. The big news was the end of Micker Adolfo‘s season, but I’ll get into that in a separate post.

In other news:

*Eloy Jimenez‘s recovery from his adductor strain is going well. He should be back in seven to 10 days.

*Ryan Cordell is set to begin his rehab stint in the Arizona Rookie League as he tries to come back from a broken collarbone.

*Nick Madrigal (hamstring) and Steele Walker (oblique) are out of action due to injuries they played through in the College World Series.

Flores!  Zangari!  Woo!  My dibs are coming home to roost.

But seriously, it’s nice to see the minor guys doing well while the big league club flounders.

While everyone is expecting the future rotation to be Kopech, Giolito, Lopez, Cease, Dunning, it will be quite ironic when the future playoff rotation is Stephens, Adams, Flores, Lambert, and McClure.

Flores is 14/16 in quality starts this year between A+ and AA. Hopefully he turns into another Sox success story of developing effective, if not overpowering, lefty starters.

Eagle Bones

Timely report from Longenhagen today after Flores came up the other day:

Bernardo Flores, LHP, Chicago White Sox (Profile)
Level: Double-A Age: 22 Org Rank: HM FV: 35+
Line: 7 IP, 6 H, 0 BB, 2 R, 7 K

Notes
Flores was jerked back and forth between the bullpen and rotation at USC and never had a chance to develop pretty promising stuff. After he was drafted, his velo spiked into the mid-90s and I ran him way up the White Sox system ranks. Last year, it tanked into the mid-80s and he fell into the honorable mention section of Kiley’s rankings, only remaining there due to the quality of his secondary stuff. He’s throwing harder again this year, sitting in the low 90s, and once again looks like a potential rotation piece.

Sox must bubble wrap all remaining prospects and place them in storage until next March.

I just want K. Pilkington to make it so I can make Karl Pilkington jokes

Eagle Bones

Yes! I said the same thing when they drafted him.

If we can’t make a starting outfield out of Jimenez, Adolfo, Rutherford, Robert, Basabe, Gonzales etc. I am going to be very sad
