Podcast: Hello, Michael Kopech

Guest: Alex Call, Birmingham Barons

The Rundown:

  • Michael Kopech has been called up by the Chicago White Sox (finally). We discuss what fans should expect from Kopech, guess how Hahn will shuffle the roster to fit Kopech, and how Eloy Jimenez will join Kopech in Chicago.
  • Rick Renteria is not having a good week after benching Avisail Garcia for not hustling hard enough, and requiring Adam Engel to bunt with two strikes. Have these tendencies changed our mind about Renteria moving forward?
  • Our guest this week is Birmingham Barons outfielder, Alex Call. He shares his journey bouncing back from injury in 2017, what has been different for him this season, and how launch angle/exit velocity helps him improve.
  • Finally, we answer your questions in P.O. Sox.

Ricky don’t lose that number

Mostly unrelated but are the Sox looking at either Mark Grudzielanek or Omar Vizquel as future Sox managers?

If Jimenez comes up in Sep, am guessing it will be after the weekend BoSox series which will draw well regardless.

Great PCast, Guys.
Hope Kopech knows to run out to the mound every inning. Would hate to see Renteria bench him.

Shields is actually #6 in innings pitched this season, behind Scherzer, Verlander, DeGrom, Kluber and Bauer. Rarified air. That will be a lot of innings to make up and help save the bullpen.

Good podcast!

I’m surprised Shields isn’t already on the Mariners. Seems like a perfect fit.

I hear this headline to this music. It’s suitably romantic for the occasion.

Finally listened to the episode: New Zealand and Australia are collectively know as the antipodes. Related: New Zealand’s national women’s softball team is known as the White Sox, and since the most popular athletic team in the country is the rugby All-Blacks, black and white athletic wear is everywhere. (When I lived there during the fall of 2005, I decided to interpret this as wild enthusiasm for Chicago’s first baseball championship since the great influenza pandemic that threatened New Zealand at the end of World War I.)

Lurker Laura

There was a mouse living in the wall between my apartment and the next during the 2005 postseason. The only time I saw it was during Sox games; it would poke his head out from behind the fridge. So, naturally, I decided to interpret this as the mouse being a Sox fan.

Great podcast, fellas. Really enjoyed the interview with Call.
