Arizona Fall League recap: Oct. 10, 2018

After emptying out nearly the entire supply of White Sox prospects on Opening Day of the Arizona Fall League, the Glendale Desert Dogs only sent Luis Robert out for the second game on Wednesday.

The box score shows Robert going 1-for-5 with a strikeout, but he was nearly 2-for-5 with a homer. Josh Norris of Baseball America took some video of Robert, including a warning-track flyout off Dauris Valdez in the sixth inning.

Robert was 0-for-3 with a ROE at that point, but he got on the board with a sharp single through the left side.

*Unrelated to AFL prospects, James Fegan’s State of Alec Hansen article at The Athletic is worth reading:

The solution is hard to pin down, the reason why the delivery problems re-emerged with such force is too, but figuring out where Hansen’s season went off track is easy enough to determine. His confidence in January wasn’t unfounded. It was the three months between his sole spring training appearance and his return to action at Birmingham as he rehabbed a forearm muscle strain where his mechanics fell apart. At least that’s the prevailing wisdom from Camelback Ranch.

“A little more cross his body, fighting himself to get back over the front side,” Zaleski said. “Stuff that we saw when he first came in kind of reared its head again. Stuff that maybe he had that injury and had some time off, you can create stuff. I talked to Champ and he said he looked great in the offseason. Maybe that time off after that injury happened. He got reverted and didn’t really grasp back to his keys and what he looked like last year and what made him so good.”

Man I hope Hansen can put it all together. When he was dominating last year, his stuff looked incredible. He will be fun to watch if he can get it back.

Me, too. I called him our “sleeping giant” at one point, and I’d hate to be wrong.

Basabe, Robert, and Rivera all starting today.
