bojack34’s offseason plan

PREAMBLE

This team showed some flashes in 2019. TA leading the league in hitting. Abreu leading the league in RBI’s. Yoyo improving significantly in 2019. Eloy and Cease look like building blocks as well. Depth and filling holes is all that is needed to be competitive in the AL Central. With my signings and trades the Sox are holding spots open for Kopech, Cease, Robert, Vaughn, Madrigal, even Dunning, Stiever and Walker.

I-ELIGIBLE PLAYERS

  • Alex Colomé, $10.3M tender
  • Yolmer Sánchez, $6.2M non tender
  • James McCann, $4.9M tender
  • Carlos Rodon, $4.5M tender
  • Leury García, $4M tender
  • Evan Marshall, $1.3M tender
  • Josh Osich, $1M non tender
  • Ryan Goins, $900K non tender

  • Welington Castillo: $8 million/$500,000 buyout decline, no beef

OTHER IMPENDING FREE AGENTS

  • Jose Abreu (made $16M in 2019) resign
  • Iván Nova (made $9,166,167 in 2019) let go

  • Hector Santiago (made $2M in 2019 on split contract) let go

FREE AGENTS

No. 1: Yasmani Grandal (3 years, $60 million ). Thought this was going to happen last year. Grandal is a complete upgrade, not only at catcher, but DH too. No need to sign JD Martinez with other moves…….

No. 2: Dallas Keuchel (3 years, $50 million ). Also thought this was going to happen last year. Keuchel is a Buerhle esque type pitcher. Brings innings and experience to this young gun rotation.

No. 3: Jose Abreu (2 year, $30 million ). He wants to be with the Sox. Consistent 30-100 middle of the order bat. Two year deal so when Vaughn is ready to come up in 2021.

No. 5: Daniel Hudson (2 year, $18 million ). Buy low bullpen depth…

Trades

No. 1: Trade James McCann, Reynaldo Lopez, Jace Fry, and  Luis Basabe to the Mets for Edwin Diaz, Michael Conforto, Steven Matz, and Jed Lowrie. The Sox take on the salaries of Diaz and Lowrie. The Mets get cost effective rotation and bullpen arms. Plus the mets need a catcher for their strong rotation. Capitalizing on McCannnons allstar 2019 year.

No. 2: Trade Kelvin Herrera, Gavin Sheets, Luis Gonzalez and Carson Fulmer to the Rockies for Charlie Blackmon, Jake McGee and Jon Gray The Sox take on the salaries of Blackmon and McGee. The Rockies get cost effective rotation and bullpen arms. Sheets and Gonzalez are Rockies type players. I think Sheets will be good. There is just no room for him with Abreu and Vaughn.

Osich ate up too many bad SP innings for him to be disrespected like this.

2/18 is buy-low on a reliever? Isn’t that how we got Kelvin Herrera for two years?

As Cirensica

The Mets trade ain’t gonna happen. Way too loopsided in our favors…yet, it’s the Mets we are talking about here….yet it is Hahn we are talking about here. My head hurts now.
