Let the fireworks begin with these moves… (dtschnei5’s offseason plan)

Its time to make bold moves, and time to win the world series.

Manager-Joe Espada, bench coach for the Houston Astros. He’s been the bench coach for three straight trips to the ALCS and last year’s trip to the World Series, first under Hinch and this year under Dusty Baker. He also has three years of front-office experience as a special assistant to New York Yankees general manager Brian Cashman.

Pitching Coach – There will be two of them. Matt Zaleski and Everett Teaford. Both Zaleski and Teaford (both internal) has drawn rave reviews from players. Zaleski on working with players, and Teaford focused on tactical data trackman stats. Great combo as first duo.

Arbitration-eligible:

Adam Engel, $4.5 million – Tender; and trade. See below.
Nomar Mazara, $5.5 million – Non-tender;

Jarrod Dyson (2020 salary: $2 million) – Re-sign; One year, $3 million, club option $5m.

Team Contract Options

Edwin Encarnación (2021 salary: $12 million) – decline;
Gio González (2021 salary: $7 million) – decline;
Leury García (2021 salary: $3.5 million) – pick up;

Free agents

Trevor Bauer RHP Two years, $70m ($35m/year)
JD  LeMahieu (2B) Three years, $45 million ($15m/year), fourth year club option $18 million
Jose Quintana LH – Two years, $20 million ($10m/year), third year club option $12 million
Tyler Flowers C – Two year, $6 million, third year club option $5 million

Trades

Trade Nick Madrigal, Dylan Cease, Yermin Mercedes, and Adam Engel to the Boston Red Sox for Alex Verdugo (RF) and PTBNL.
Alex is only 23 and a left handed hitter. He is a complete player who does all the things to complement this extremely powerful lineup. He wont hit 40 HR but he will hit .300 and 20 HR and play good defense. A player you can put in RF for the next 10 years. The Red Sox are rebuilding and while they would give up a young OF, they need pieces, in return they get right handed outfielder which they need in Fenway, 2B and pitching help to jump start their rebuild.

Summary

LINEUP (9)
SS – Tim Anderson-RH ($7m)
3B – Yoan Moncada-SH ($7m)
1B – Jose Abreu- RH ($18m)
LF – Eloy Jimenez-RH ($5m)
C  – Yasmani Grandal- SH ($18m)
RF – Alex Verdugo- LH ($1m)
CF – Luis Robert- RH ($7m)
DH – Andrew Vaughn- RH ($1m)
2B – DJ LeMahieu- RH ($15m)

THE STARTING ROTATION (5)
RHP- Trevor Bauer ($35M)
RHP – Lucas Giolito ($1m)
LHP – Dallas Keuchel ($18m)
RHP – Dane Dunning ($1m)
LHP – Jose Quintana ($10m)

To win a WS you need two Aces, and here we have three! Best of seven series typically boils down to a two of three. And I’d like my chances of tossing out Bauer, Giolito and Keuchel for the final three games to win. Toss in Dunning and Quintana for inning throughout the year, its a strong staff to get you to the playoffs. Plus you have pitchers that can help throughout the year like Kopeck and Crochet.

THE LIGHTS OUT BULLPEN (8)
RHP – Matt Foster ($1m) Closer
RHP – Michael Kopech ($1m) Closer
LHP – Aaron Bummer ($2m) 8th inning
RHP – Codi Heuer ($1m) 8th inning
RHP – Evan Marshall ($2m) 7th inning
LHP – Jace Fry ($1m) 7th inning  7th inning
RHP – Jimmy Cordero ($1m) 6th inning
RHP – Reynaldo Lopez ($2m) Long relief
Lot of arms in the pen, but there are lots of potential to mix and match. A Lot of flexibility where guys can shift into the starting role if Quantana or Dunning does not perform, and Lopez needs to be watch closely if he wants to remain on the big league club. Garrett Crochet will start the season in AA.

THE BENCH (4)
C – Tyler Flowers ($3m)
UT – Leury Garcia ($3m)
IF – Danny Mendick ($1m)
OF – Jarrod Dyson ($3m)

From top to bottom, from starter to reserve, from manager to pitching metrix coach, this team is loaded. They have the team average in TA and DJ, the team speed in TA and Luis, and the pop in the line from 2-8 with yo-yo through thru rookie Vaughn. The starting staff is loaded with three aces, and the bullpen has four guys who can close, and their best pitcher is probably starting in AA in Crochet. The payroll is $165 million. Ready to make a run.

$165 million?… Right on

iamkarnold

I’d LOVE for the Sox to spend this much! But our 2022 payroll would be over 200 mil factoring in arb estimates. Love the fantasy but unlikely

I haven’t yet read a majority of the plans, but this is my favorite so far. It’s bold. I think your free agent estimates are competitive. I don’t want to trade Madrigal, but I might for that deal, which I think is reasonable.

Jerry, authorize the dollars. Rick, get it done.
