White Sox Minor Keys: May 11, 2011

Jake Burger (Laura Wolff / Charlotte Knights)

Jake Burger has played in four games for the Charlotte Knights this season, and he’s shown everybody something new in each one.

May 4: Took the field, although he had to leave early with a leg issue.

May 8: Returned to the field and played a whole nine innings.

May 9: Homered in his first at-bat.

May 11: Once again homered in his first at-bat…

… and he also drew a walk to reach twice.

That broke new ground, but a walk wouldn’t have been enough to lead the Minor Keys for a second straight game. But this play?

There’s Burger showing the athleticism to range behind the bag, but what stood out to me was Burger’s confidence in planting before firing. The twice-repaired Achilles withstood the stress nicely, and being 40 pounds lighter probably doesn’t hurt in that regard, either.

Fayetteville 10, Kannapolis 1

especially liked the one that bit and dipped so wickedly that the batter took off for first, assuming it had to have gotten away from the catcher – only to be called out on a caught strike 3

It would be nice to have an updated scouting report on Mieses‘s fielding. Power surge + moving to corner-outfield-only suggests that he may be filling out?

Really rooting for Jake Burger! Good to see him make progress.

Greg Nix

That Kannapolis game has the worst CF camera angle I’ve ever seen.

Right Size Wrong Shape

I heard that he no-hit the Alternate Site Cubs before the surgery, so I’m interested to see how he looks.

He’s interested to see how he looks as well I think ????.

FYI the link for the Charlotte box score goes to a different site. Although the title of the page seems like a message for those who might want the box score.
