White Sox Minor Keys: June 20, 2021
The year-plus absence of minor-league baseball interrupted the normal operations of some affiliates, and one of the byproducts is less regular press releases about minor roster machinations across the affiliates, so some reassignments or status updates don’t register until I see them in a strange box score, or realize I haven’t seen them in a normal box score.
So it may be a public service to summarize the notable prospects on the injured list at each level:
Charlotte: None.
Birmingham: Lincoln Henzman (has yet to appear), Will Kincanon (last pitched May 15).
Winston-Salem: Victor Diaz (of course), Bryce Bush (May 20)
Kannapolis: Jared Kelley (May 22) Yoelvin Silven (June 9), Matthew Thompson (June 16).

Now that the Cespedes situation has been resolved, what’s going on with Norge Vera? Is he destined for the DSL this year, or are there visa issues with him, too?
I’m guessing DSL.
I did not know that Victor Diaz was still in organized baseball, let alone this baseball organization.
I remember Peter Gammons saying at the time of the Sale trade that Diaz was the most major-league ready and the likeliest player to reach the majors first.
Oh well.
I don’t think he ever was. I think he was a generic name created by the Sox’s because the commissioner’s office said they had to include one more player in the Sale deal to make it fair or something.
A murmur started about the White Sox in trade talks for Eduardo Escobar. That could work.
Sign me up for that…He hits dingers as well which we need.
Oooops
There’s another reason why it might make sense to wait until the trade deadline as long as they are still playing well.
Players can’t suffer injuries after the trade deadline?
Nope, it was part of the last CBA.
Wow. What I mean is that you eliminate from the pool everyone who gets hurt from now until the trade deadline. Which this season might be significant.
It is a good point. But waiting bears some cost.
True, but trading for someone now bears cost as well – actual ($), theoretically prospects (you have to give up more for another 6 weeks of the player), and the injury risk I stated before.
I don’t see how he is much of an improvement. The home runs would be nice, but he’s struggled against RHP this year and hasn’t done much else besides the home runs. I’m guessing his defense at this stage of his career would be a downgrade from Mendick or Garcia too. If they are going to go out and add another flawed player, it would be nice if he actually complemented what they already have (i.e. a righty masher they could platoon with Mendick).
Only thing I see is that he provides options. This season we have been decimated by injuries. Leury is the jack of all trades TLR plugs anywhere, but with Leury all banged up too, Escobar can alleviate the infield. He can play 3B, 2B, and SS. I am guessing that Hahn and TLR envision Leury going to the outfield until reinforcements arrive.
Agreed on all counts, though I would happily trade Francisco Liriano for him right now.
That one still hurts.
Yolbert Sánchez is in A ball huh? Is he gonna happen?
